CONNECT 2016, BANGALORE CHAPTER

Sikkim Manipal University Distance Education organised CONNECT 2016, a meet of alumni from Bangalore on Sunday, July 03 2016, in its endeavour to help students network better and celebrate the milestone of 5 lakh graduates.

CONNECT 2016 saw hundreds of graduates meet and network with each other, while toppers from recent outgoing batches were felicitated at the gala event. Other highlights of the event included sessions by industry experts, a photo-booth corner and a drum jam session conducted by musicians from Ghana.  

SMU-DE CONNECT will be an annual event hereon with multiple chapters across the country.

Dr. NS Ramesh Murthy, Director, Sikkim Manipal University Distance Education expressed his delight over the initiative of connecting the vast alumni network of SMU-DE. Delivering the welcome note, he said “Big things often have small beginnings. This event is one such small initiative that will mark the beginning of bringing together the vast alumni network of SMU-DE. SMU-DE has been persistently working towards improving learners’ experience, and today’s event is a testimony to the same, when we celebrate together the landmark of five lakh graduates.”

The event was graced by Mr. Venkatesh Parathasarathy, CEO & MD, Food World Supermarkets Ltd.; and Mr. Dinesh H S, India Lead, Global Talent Enablement, HP Enterprise; who shared insights with the alumni on ‘Personal Branding’ and ‘Importance of Learning Agility in Evolving Workplace’, respectively.

Delivering the key note speech, Mr. Venkatesh emphasised on the significance of Personal Branding. “Building personal credibility is the first step towards building a strong personal brand. The key attributes for building a strong brand include integrity, consistency and compassion.” he said, besides applauding the students for going beyond limits and successfully completing their SMU-DE courses.

Addressing the alumni, Mr. Dinesh HS spoke about the challenges of rapidly changing workplace scenarios and how continuous learning helps in facing them. Mr. Dinesh said, “The situation in the job market has become more volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous. With the evolution of technology, skill sets are becoming redundant; hence learning agility and adaptability is the mantra for success. It is important to learn from experience and co-evolve, by going beyond one’s comfort zone.”

SMU-DE commenced Programs in Distance Education in 2001 and over the years has earned the status of a leading Distance Education provider of the country, with over five lakh students graduating in its wide variety of Programs. It currently offers UGC approved industry-oriented Programs in the streams of Management and Information Technology.
