A story of success

Pass Out Year: Fifth Sem
Current Organization: Indian Air Force
Current Designation: Senior Non Commissioned Officer

I am from the small village of Fatehpur, a backward district of Uttar Pradesh. At time of my schooling (1977 to 1982) there was no any school in my village and I had to go to the nearest govt. primary school in Bakewar village, about 2kms away, by walk. I had a dream from childhood to work on the aircraft which I would see flying over my village every day.

Time flew very fast. I passed High School from Janaki Higher Secondary School Bakewar in 1987 and Intermediate from Purusottam Inter College, Khajuha Fatehpur in 1989 with Physics, Chemistry, and Maths. My father could not afford the living cost for me in Kanpur city so I had to cycle from my village to attend graduation classes at DAV Degree College, Kanpur (60 Kms one way) from 1989 to 91. However I could complete my graduation due to my selection in the Indian Air Force as Airman in 1991.

Dream came true

The first time I saw a fighter aircraft from so close was unbelievable! In the Air Force service I got the promotions up to Senior Non Commissioned Officer in 20 years of service. The first time I saw a movie playing on a computer in the Shillong Air Force fair, I was really impressed. That’s when I set my goal to become a Software Engineer. The first course I did in 1999 was one with Windows 3.11 and Windows 98, Lotus, WordStar, Dbase and may more.

I have a passion for study even today. I have never stopped my journey for knowledge even though most of the times I have been posted in border locations. I joined the Air Force as an Intermediate passed candidate but I continued my studies, completed my Graduation in 2001 and Post Graduation in 2003 from Kanpur University. Further I have completed Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Applications from DOEACC in 2005. I have also done my Certificate Course on Advance Java from C-DAC, New Delhi in the year 2007 and certificate course in .Net Technology in 2010 from ATS, Pune. I attempted to do my M.Sc. but could not complete it due to time and age constraints.

SMU opened new avenues for me

I took admission in MCA in SMU-DE due to its innovative system of teaching like EduNxt, one of the most easiest and complete study tools, the examination pattern and the availability of nearby learning centres. I really appreciate Sikkim Manipal University for transforming young generation people into good professionals.

I have developed many software applications and websites for the Air Force during my posting in a SU 30 MKI Squadron in 2009. I got the opportunity to develop software for SU 30 MKI maintenance record purpose under the guidance of a Wing Cdr and Sqn. Leader. The Software was appreciated by Directorate of Air staff Inspections Air HQ New Delhi during their visit to the Squadron. Finally the day came when my services were recognized and my wife got the honor of having lunch with the President of India, Smt. Pratibha Devi Patil.

My advice to young students and aspiring professionals – Life will throw challenges at you, but you can face them if you have the courage and conviction. For me, SMU-DE was instrumental in firing up my passion to learn more and do more.
