Assistant Professor - Senior Scale
Dr sumathi nagesh is Assistant Professor - Senior Scale and Academic coordinator of the English Programme at the Department of Liberal Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at Manipal Academy of Higher Education, India. She has a PhD on “Translation-Adaptation of Ibsen's The Master Builder in Kannada: Comparative Analysis of Intersectionality of Identities” from the Centre for Women’s Studies, University of Hyderabad. She is also the Coordinator for the Centre for Gender Education and Research at the University. She has published book reviews and scholarly journal articles on Gender and Performance studies, Cultural Labour, and Ibsen Studies. Her teaching philosophy is student-centric and uses theatre games and techniques to facilitate a fun and experiential learning of literatures. Besides the classroom, she takes her interest in theatre and gender into the world outside too. A trainer for gender sensitivity and theatre, she has facilitated several training programs for well-known organizations and institutions. Owing to her training in street theatre and theatre of the oppressed techniques, she is a strong advocate of creating an inclusive classroom, her teaching strives to break the hierarchies of a traditional classroom and step outside the four walls of a classroom.
