Dr. Najeed Naved Siddiqui
Assistant Professor of Law
Dr. Najeed Naved Siddiqui works at the intersection of constitutional theory and lived governance failure. His doctoral research spent years in the gap between what India’s National Food Security Act, 2013 promises on paper and what the Public Distribution System actually delivers on the ground, using empirical fieldwork. He holds an LL.M. in Constitutional and Administrative Law from National Law University Odisha and a B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) from Aligarh Muslim University. That same instinct of testing legal frameworks against the realities they’re meant to govern runs through the rest of his work. Writing on groundwater justice and river personhood in rural Uttar Pradesh, spousal violence patterns drawn from NFHS-5 data in Karnataka, and the constitutional contours of India’s mental health reforms. He is equally at home in strict doctrinal argument (on the right to be forgotten, essential religious practice tests, electoral integrity) and in interdisciplinary terrain where law meets environmental science, public health data, and technology policy. His academic and research interests span Constitutional Law & Administrative Law, Environmental Law, Food Security, Human Rights, Public Policy, Technology and Law, and Judicial Governance. His broader research examines constitutionalism, judicial governance, environmental rights and personhood, rights of nature, environmental justice, technology and law, and human-rights-based approaches to public policy. His scholarship combines doctrinal, empirical, and interdisciplinary approaches to evaluate the effectiveness of legal institutions, governance mechanisms, and rights-based frameworks. The Constitution is something that he loves - though his greatest love is for cars, not just for the driving but for the taking apart, fixing, and endless tinkering in between.
