Timber Workshop for B. Arch 1st Year Students
April 10, 2026
The Timber Joinery Workshop was conducted as a hands-on learning exercise where students worked in groups to design and fabricate freestanding timber sculptures using basic joinery techniques. The workshop introduced students to fundamental timber joints such as lap joints, mortise and tenon, dovetail, and dowel connections, helping them understand their structural behavior, purpose, and application in building and furniture design. Through guided demonstrations and practical making, students gained valuable experience in craftsmanship, material understanding, and precision in construction. The exercise encouraged teamwork, collaborative problem-solving, and design–build thinking, while allowing students to explore the relationship between structure, material, gravity, and creativity through the act of making.
