ABOUT THE DIVISION

The Division of Yoga, under the Centre for Integrative Medicine & Research (CIMR), Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), is dedicated to advancing education, research, and clinical application of Yoga Therapy within an integrative healthcare framework.

With a legacy spanning over four decades, the Division has contributed to the development of Yoga Therapy education and research while continually adapting to evolving healthcare needs. The Division offers postgraduate and doctoral programs that integrate classical yogic knowledge with contemporary scientific understanding, therapeutic application, and academic inquiry.

The Division actively engages in teaching, research, clinical training, and community outreach, with a focus on promoting evidence-informed Yoga Therapy for health, wellbeing, disease prevention, and supportive care. Through interdisciplinary collaboration and research-driven learning, students are prepared to contribute meaningfully to wellness, academics, research, and integrative healthcare settings.

M.Sc. Yoga Therapy

A two-year postgraduate program integrating classical yogic knowledge, therapeutic application, clinical training, and research. The program prepares graduates for professional opportunities in wellness, integrative healthcare settings, academics, and research.

CLINICAL PRACTICE & COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

The Division of Yoga contributes to health promotion, wellness, and therapeutic care through clinical services, academic training, research activities, and community engagement initiatives.

Located within the Triveni Centre at MAHE’s Health Sciences Campus and associated with Kasturba Medical College & Hospital (KMC), the Division provides opportunities for supervised clinical exposure and experiential learning within a teaching hospital environment. Students gain practical insights into the application of Yoga Therapy through clinical observation, patient interactions, and therapeutic training as part of their academic journey.

The Division also engages in outreach programs, wellness initiatives, educational activities, and health promotion efforts that support the broader application of yoga for individual and community wellbeing.

Through its integration within CIMR and MAHE, the Division fosters meaningful connections between education, research, clinical practice, and community service.

Programs

ITS CURRICULUM INCLUDES:

  • Classroom teachings, seminar, assignments and tutorials.
  • Patient interaction for assessment and application of yoga therapy.
  • Classical text, basic science and applied medical science.
  • Application of yoga as therapy with the basic text knowledge.
  • Sessional examinations, seminars and clinical studies.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Set up own yoga centres, work as yoga therapist and teach in colleges and universities.

Facilities

Yoga Therapy Out Patient Department (OPD)

·         OPD Timings 7 A.M to 6 P.M

·         IP and OP Patients referred by various departments (Paediatrics, Medicine, OBG, Eye, Cardiology, Orthopedics & Psychiatry and other various departments of our Kasturba hospital) and other hospital & clinics.

·         Per each patient we will engage for 1 hour for 15 sessions/1-3 months

·         Per day number of patients average 40 – 45 (IP & OP patients)

·         Monthly number of patients average 850 to 900 (IP & OP patients)

·         General yoga classes for all.
