Decoding 3D Printing and Clear Aligners:

The Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics conducted a guest lecture and Hands-on workshop where our alumnus, Dr. Padma Priya who is currently the Associate Dean and the Head of the Department of Orthodontics at Vishnu Dental College, Bhimavaram, Andra Pradesh was the resource person.

We discussed the various types of intra-oral scanners,3D printers and 3D printing techniques. She also highlighted the steps involved in the fabrication of clear aligners through the use of 3D printers. Several cases of malocclusion treated in her practice with in-office aligners were also discussed.

Dr Vaishnavi and Dr Kavishma, faculty from the Dept. of Prosthodontics demonstrated the procedure for scanning with the help of a Prime scan intra-oral scanner. The program observed enthusiastic involvement from 53 participants.
