His experience in the area of education includes managing various initiatives covering the entire spectrum of university education - from campus based education to distance and distributed learning and corporate & continuing education.
His healthcare experience includes building Manipal Hospitals into one of the most respected healthcare networks in the country. His experience also includes establishing start-ups, bringing about a turnaround in operations and building & linking healthcare networks, from primary to tertiary care.
In addition to his responsibilities as Pro Chancellor of SMU, he is a member of the Boards of Management of Manipal University, Manipal and Manipal University Jaipur. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of TA Pai Management Institute and is on the Boards of Manipal Health Enterprises Pvt. Ltd., MEMG Securities Ltd and MEMG India Pvt Ltd.
Between 2010 to 2014 Mr Padukone was the MD & CEO of Manipal Health Enterprises (Manipal Hospitals). During this period, he was, at different times, the Vice President of the Healthcare Federation of India (NATHEALTH), the apex body representing the private healthcare delivery sector, Co-Chair in FICCI’s Health Services National Committee and a member of the Governing Council of the Healthcare Sector Skills Council.
Between 2005 and 2010 he was the President of Manipal Global Education Pvt Ltd and had oversight, at various times, of distance education, overseas academic campuses of MEMG, corporate education and vocational and skills training.
Before joining MEMG in 1998, he worked for 13 years with ANZ Grindlays Bank, in the areas of investment banking, international finance and retail financial services. He has also worked with IL&FS Ltd, Bangalore, Crompton Greaves Ltd, Mumbai and Kirloskar Oil Engines Ltd. Pune.
Mr. Padukone has graduated from Fergusson College, Pune University. He has a Masters in Economics from the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Pune, and a Masters in Management Studies from Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai.
