What Is EduNxt™

EduNxt™ is the next generation learning system that takes advantage of modern teaching techniques to create a virtual classroom where students come together to learn from distinguished faculty and from each other. SMU-DE's EduNxt™ was launched in May 2009 by Steve Ballmer, CEO Microsoft Corp. USA and Anand Sudarshan, CEO Manipal Education to fulfil the following objectives-

  • Offers online learning to all the distance education students of SMU-DE
  • Impart quality education through cutting edge technology
  • Develop a sense of togetherness among the members and different stakeholders of the huge SMU community within the platform.

The EduNxt™ platform is an easy to use delivery system. It creates a collaborative and interactive environment for learning and includes small group mentoring, virtual classrooms, simulation, self-study content, recorded presentations and shared browsing. EduNxt™ functions on the principle of 3 As + 4 Cs. The 3 As of Affordability, Accessibility and Appropriateness are the guidelines to scaling up EduNxt™ across distributed learning. The 4 Cs of Content, Collaboration, Communication and Computing are the basis of developing EduNxt™ into a means of disseminating education among the not-so-privileged or the infrastructurally–challenged learners.

EduNxt™ supports all courses offered by SMU-DE.

EduNxt™ Is Designed On The Following Three Ideas:

  • Learn Better
  • Ask More
  • Connect Wider

Current Features Of EduNxt™

/ Interactive Digital Content

EduNxt™ has developed interactive digital content which condenses the entire content of a 300-page textbook into 15-20 web pages, with clearly-defined learning objectives and without losing any relevant subject matter information. This is done by a team of faculty, instructional designers, graphic designers and multimedia developers.

/ Types Of Digital Content

  • Faculty-led instructional videos
  • Animated concept videos and case studies
  • Concept maps and interactive animations

/ Ease Of Learning

EduNxt™ is student-focussed and enables the learning process through:

  • Subject-wise web conferences with the faculty for clarifications
  • Assignment and project submissions.

/ Stay Connected With The University - 24/7

All student-related information is regularly communicated through

  • Announcements on EduNxt™ website
  • SMS to learner’s registered mobile phone
  • Email to learner’s registered email address.

Communication is most effective when it is a two-way street. In case students want to communicate with the faculty or the university, they can

  • Log a request through helpdesk on EduNxt™ web / EduNxt™ mobile app
  • Post a question on the Ask EduNxt™ forum, a Q&A community comprising faculty and learners where anyone can post, and answer questions.

/ Learning On The Go – Internal Assessment Submissions

Another important component of the curriculum at SMU-DE is Internal Assignments (IA). All students have to submit their assignments for the semester during the IA submission window.

This window is active once every 4 months.
