Networth – The Finance Club of KMC (Kasturba Medical College), MAHE, Manipal organised Fintalk – Financial Fitness for Future Professionals on Wednesday, May 14, 2025 (17:30 to 19:00 hours IST) in the Interact Halls, KMC, MAHE, Manipal.
Dr Rajesh Kamath (Faculty, Department of Healthcare and Hospital Management [DHHM], Prasanna School of Public Health [PSPH], Manipal Academy of Higher Education [MAHE], Manipal) was the resource person for this event.
During the talk, the resource person shared key insights on:
>Setting yearly financial goals & saving by budgeting wisely
>Starting investments & managing expenses
>Using financial tools & schemes for medicos
>Handling studies, loans & income pressure
Dr Rajesh Kamath introduced the audience to the Rule of 72, a simple formula to estimate how long it takes for an investment to double at a given interest rate. He emphasised cultivating a frugal mindset, encouraging the audience to live below their means and make conscious financial decisions early on.
He guided the medical students, on how to start investing through mutual funds, making the case for starting small but consistent. He also explained the concept of SWP (Systematic Withdrawal Plan) as a smart way to generate regular income from investments in the future.
Lastly, Dr Rajesh Kamath stressed the importance of having a monetizable skill, highlighting how it not only provides financial independence but also resilience in an ever-changing professional landscape.
It was an eye-opening session that blended financial literacy with practical advice tailored to the students’ stage in life.
