“Early Detection, Better Futures: YCBH Awareness Drive”
March 12, 2026
On International Women’s Day 2026, the Youth Council for Breast Health (YCBH) – MCON Chapter organized a vital Breast Health Awareness Session on 8th March 2026 at the Panchayat Office in Bailoor, Karkala, beginning at 10:30 am to empower local women with essential knowledge for early detection and proactive health management. The program was made possible through the collaborative efforts of Mrs. Sandhya, Panchayat Development Officer of Bailoor, and Mrs. Chethana, President of the Sanjeevani Group, whose engagement ensured strong community participation. Mrs. Geena Louis Dsouza, Lecturer in the Department of Fundamentals of Nursing and Mentor for YCBH, led an informative session on breast cancer incidence, addressed common myths, and highlighted warning signs in an interactive format that encouraged questions and discussion. Following this, Mrs. Sweety Fernandez, Assistant Professor in the Department of OBG Nursing, provided a step-by-step demonstration of Breast Self-Examination (BSE), explaining how and when to perform the procedure, emphasising the importance of consistency and when to seek medical care. Approximately 30 women attended and actively engaged with the speakers, showing keen interest in the techniques demonstrated, reflecting the session’s relevance and impact. This initiative contributes to SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) and SDG 5 (Gender Equality) by promoting health education and empowering women with the knowledge to take charge of their health, thereby advancing broader community well-being and sustainable development.
