REPORT ON OBSERVATION OF ANTIRAGGING WEEK (12 - 18 AUGUST 2025)
September 12, 2025
As per the directives of the University Grants Commission (UGC), Manipal College of Nursing (MCON), MAHE, Manipal observed ‘Anti-Ragging Week’ from 12th to 18th August 2025 to promote awareness and ensure a safe, ragging-free environment for all students.
The observance began with an orientation session held on 4th August 2025 from 4:00 to 4:30 pm and 2nd September 2025 between 11.30 am and 12.00 pm, during which the newly admitted BSc and MSc Nursing students were introduced to the anti-ragging strategies followed at MCON. The students were assured of a safe and supportive environment within the MAHE campus.
As part of the implementation of anti-ragging measures:
· The Anti-Ragging Squad of MCON conducts regular surprise visits to hostels to monitor student interactions and ensure compliance with anti-ragging norms.
· It was ensured that all students signed the Anti-Ragging Affidavit, declaring that they would not indulge in any behaviour construed as ragging under Clause 3 of the UGC Regulations. They were also made aware of the punitive measures under Clause 9.1 in case of any violations.
· Posters highlighting anti-ragging strategies and punishments were displayed prominently on classroom noticeboards and in hostels to reinforce awareness among students.
To engage students and reinforce the anti-ragging message, several creative and educational activities were conducted during the week. These included:
· Essay Writing
· Slogan Writing
· Logo Making
· Poster Designing Competitions
These activities saw enthusiastic participation from both newly admitted and senior undergraduate students. On 12th August 2025, between 10.30 am and 12.15 pm, a total of 23 students from MCON attended the seminar organized by the Department of Student Affairs, MAHE, on the Anti-Ragging theme.
The initiatives taken during the week were aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 3 and 16 — ensuring Good Health and Well-Being and promoting Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions.
All updates regarding the activities and compliance were uploaded to the UGC’s Anti-Ragging Portal as required. The overall coordination of the Anti-Ragging Week was effectively managed by Dr. Melita Sheilini, ensuring a successful and impactful observance.
