Various activities were conducted which included a poster competition on the theme: ‘Make it happen – Women free from violence’ on 6th March, 2015. There were 29 teams who participated from various colleges of Manipal Academy of Higher Education. All the posters were displayed at the ground floor of MCON. The best poster was won by Ms. Philby Babu Menachery and Ms. Roseminu Varghese, 2nd Year M.Sc. Nursing students and second best was Mr. Ramesh, PhD Scholar, MCON, Manipal.  

We in association with Catholic women association, St. Pius X church, Palimar celebrated International Women’s day on 8th of March, 2015. An outreach program was conducted at the Church which was on organized effort by Mrs. Jacinta Suvares, Mrs. Rufina Mendonsa and their associates. It was attended by local parish women. The chief purpose behind this program was to educate the rural women about Breast Cancer and Menopause which are important health issues concerning women. The chief guest of the program was the Vicar of the church, Reverend Father Charles Noronha. He spoke on the significance of respecting women and the need for collective effort towards gender equality. Mrs. Pratibha, Assistant Professor, Manipal College of Nursing explained in detail about early detection of breast cancer and importance of breast self examination. Mrs. Clara Pramila D’souza, Assistant lecturer, Manipal School of Nursing, Manipal Academy of Higher Education discussed on menopause its signs and symptoms and measures to manage the symptoms. It was an interactive session from which the attendees benefitted by gaining information on Breast Cancer and Menopause. Information pamphlet on the topic was also distributed. At the end of the program, women were engaged in different games conducted by the students. All attendee’s weight and blood pressure were checked as a part of health check-up and screening. Overall, the program was a success!
