On November 19, 2025, the Department of Child Health Nursing faculty and first-year PBBSc nursing students from Manipal College of Nursing (MCON), Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), Manipal, successfully organized an outreach program. This initiative, conducted from 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM , aimed to raise critical awareness among 50 students from Classes IV and V at Academy School, Manipal. The program's core theme was “Adolescent Health and Environmental Hygiene”.
The session was meticulously organised under the guidance of Dr Sangeetha Priyadarshini, Assistant Professor in the Department of Child Health Nursing. The educational content focused comprehensively on various aspects of adolescent health, including physical and emotional changes, menstruation, and the promotion of healthy lifestyle practices crucial for both boys and girls during their formative years. Furthermore, the program strongly emphasised the vital importance of environmental hygiene as a key strategy for preventing diseases. Aligning with the global agenda, the initiative directly supports Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG 3): Good Health and Well-being, recognising that good health is a crucial component of sustainable development.
The session commenced with a warm welcome extended by Mrs. Laxmi, the Headteacher of Academy School. Ms. Crysel Danthy, a first-year PBBSc Nursing student, then formally introduced the program objectives. To ensure high student engagement, the awareness session incorporated diverse and interactive methodologies, including discussion, a video presentation specifically on environmental hygiene, a student-performed skit and dance, and a hands-on demonstration of proper handwashing techniques. Ms. Crysel Danthy concluded the successful program by delivering the vote of thanks. Following the event, feedback was collected from all participants. Both students and faculty expressed high appreciation, characterizing the session as well-organised, informative, and highly beneficial.
