As part of this programme, BMI assessment was done for the school children with an intention to identify the degree of malnutrition and to provide counseling services on nutrition. The pamphlet on nutritious diet was also distributed to all children and instructed them to follow the healthy diet and avoid junk foods. The children those who had less weight for the age were motivated to eat high protein diet and also informed to the teachers.

On 7th September 2018, health awareness programme on “Impact of child’s nutrition on their growth and development” was conducted from 9.30 am to 12 noon at the same school. A total of 72 school children participated in the event. The importance of National Nutritional Week was given by Dr. Shashidhara Y N, HOD, Department of Community Health Nursing, MCON, Manipal. He emphasized the importance of celebrating this week, the various nutrients, its sources, functions and the consequences of nutritional deficiencies.

Followed by that, the students enacted a role play on the importance of nutrition and educated the children on the topic by using various teaching materials and techniques such as lecture, discussion, games, quiz and action song/dance. The programme was concluded with prize distribution and vote of thanks.
A total of 18 students of IV year BSc Nursing organized the programme. The programme was coordinated by Mrs. Jeyalakshmi K, Asst. Professor, Dept. of Community Health Nursing, MCON Manipal.
